THE BIRTHSTONE GUIDE

A guide to making your jewellery personal.

Birthstones are a beautiful way to add meaning and individuality to fine jewellery. Each month is represented by a gemstone, with its own distinctive colour, history and symbolism.

Choose your own birthstone, the stone of someone you love, or combine stones to represent the people and moments most meaningful to you. Or simply choose a gemstone because you love it.

There are no rules - the meaning is yours.

APRIL - DIAMOND

Strength • Love • Eternity

Our favourite - although we might be biased.

Diamonds have long symbolised strength, clarity and everlasting love. But we don't believe diamonds need to be reserved for engagements.

Wear your own. Gift one. Mark a milestone. Or buy the diamond simply because you wanted it.

MAKE IT YOURS

Your birthstone is only the beginning.

Choose the stone belonging to someone you love. Combine the birthstones of your children. Add your partner's alongside your own. Mark an anniversary, a new arrival or a chapter you never want to forget.

Or ignore the calendar entirely and choose the gemstone you simply can't stop thinking about.

Our Personalise Collection is designed around the idea that jewellery should tell your story. Wear one stone on its own, layer different birthstones together or incorporate them into a bespoke piece to create something with a meaning entirely your own.

WHY BIRTHSTONES MAKE THE PERFECT GIFT

The best gifts are the ones that feel like they could only belong to that person.

Birthstones add an instant layer of meaning to fine jewellery. Choose their own stone to celebrate them, your stone as something to remember you by, or combine the birthstones of the people they love most.

They can mark a birthday, a new baby, an anniversary or a milestone - but they don't need an occasion at all.

It's a small detail that transforms a beautiful piece of jewellery into something deeply personal.

HOW TO STYLE BIRTHSTONE JEWELLERY

There are no rules when it comes to wearing something personal.

Start simply with a single birthstone pendant or bracelet for an everyday touch of colour, or layer different stones together to tell your story.

Pair your birthstone with an initial on your Heirloom Chain, stack coloured gemstones alongside diamonds and solid gold, or combine the birthstones of partners, children and loved ones within one piece.

We especially love mixing precious stones with everyday diamonds. Your jewellery doesn't have to match — it just has to mean something to you.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SETTING FOR YOUR STONE

The setting does more than hold your gemstone in place - it can completely change the way a piece looks and feels.

A bezel setting surrounds the stone in gold for a smooth, modern finish and added protection, making it beautiful for pieces designed to be worn every day.

A claw setting allows more of the gemstone to be seen and lets light enter from different angles, creating a delicate, traditional fine-jewellery feel.

A flush setting places the gemstone directly into the surface of the gold, creating a seamless, low-profile finish. Modern and understated, it’s perfect for everyday pieces and adding scattered stones to a personalised design.

For bespoke pieces, we'll consider the gemstone itself, how you plan to wear it and the overall design before recommending the setting that will best protect and showcase your stone.

Because every gemstone is different, the details matter.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR BIRTHSTONE JEWELLERY

Fine jewellery is made to be worn, but a little care will help keep it beautiful for years to come.

Different gemstones have different levels of hardness and durability, so how you care for your piece will depend on the stone you've chosen. Diamonds, sapphires and rubies are particularly suited to everyday wear, while softer or more delicate gemstones - including opals and pearls - need a little extra care.

As a general rule, avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals, remove it during activities where it may be knocked or scratched, and store pieces separately when they're not being worn.

For more delicate stones, avoid ultrasonic cleaners unless you've been advised they're suitable for your particular piece.

And remember - fine jewellery isn't supposed to remain completely untouched. The little signs of wear it gathers over time become part of its story.

CREATE YOUR HEIRLOOM

Some of our most treasured jewellery isn't necessarily the most valuable. It's the piece we remember someone wearing. The necklace we inherited. The ring that marks a particular moment. The piece we reach for every single day.

That's what we want these pieces to become.

Start with one stone and add to it as your story grows. Collect meaningful charms on your Heirloom Chain, combine birthstones to represent your family, or work with our Bespoke Concierge to incorporate meaningful gemstones into a completely one-of-a-kind design.

WEAR YOUR STORY

Your birthstone is simply a place to begin.

Wear your own. Choose someone else's. Combine the stones of your family. Mark a new beginning, remember someone special or choose a gemstone purely because you love it.

Over time, those choices become part of the story held within your jewellery.

At EF Studios, we create pieces to be worn now, collected over a lifetime and, perhaps one day, passed on to someone else.

Choose your stones. Collect your story. Create your heirloom.
